08.04.2025

The workshop entitled “Psychology from Different Perspectives” organized by our university’s Faculty of Culture and Social Sciences was held on April 8, 2025 at the Conference Hall of the School of Foreign Languages.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Cemal Yıldız, who made the opening speech of the workshop, noted that the focus was on meaningful questions, problems and issues in our individual lives under the title of “Psychology from diverse perspectives”. He thanked the speakers who contributed from different academic fields and underlined the significance of interdisciplinary collaborations. Drawing attention to the necessity of a holistic approach with a cultural perspective in his speech, our Rector emphasized the importance of social issues such as migration, trauma and identity in terms of research in the field of psychology.

Our Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Culture and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Aysel Uzuntaş touched upon the importance of approaching psychology from different academic fields by concentrating on the concept of “diverse perspectives” in her speech. Prof. Dr. Uzuntaş stated that the workshop, which covered subfields of psychology such as experimental, cognitive, clinical and social psychology, was enriched with its cultural and communicational dimensions. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Uzuntaş indicated that communication, social interaction, intercultural context and the reasons and processes of migration constitute a fundamental area in terms of psychological research.

Our Unit Coordinator of the Faculty of Culture and Social Sciences, Rainer Schmidt, stated that the discipline of psychology was generally evaluated within the faculty of natural sciences in the established academic system in Germany, whereas its being addressed within the Faculty of Culture and Social Sciences at Turkish-German University shows the approach. Stating that this difference reflects the perspective and context in which a scientific field is approached, Schmidt drew attention to the importance of academic collaborations to be carried out on the axis of memory and cultural memory within the framework of social psychology and in the context of seeking answers to social issues.

The workshop, which continued throughout the day and in which academics from different universities delivered their presentations, was enthusiastically followed by our students and academicians interested in the field of psychology.
